Over 65 contractors, engineers and consultants attended the Lake Wallenpaupack Contractor Workshop held March 22, 2016 at the Wallenpaupack Environmental Learning Center in Hawley.
Attendees learned about management of Lake Wallenpaupack and how they can help protect it. The Lake Office explained fluctuation of lake water levels throughout the year, how to locate the normal high water mark on the lake and the company’s property line, the types of projects which need to be permitted or which are prohibited, and vegetation management at the lake. Representatives of Pike and Wayne County Conservation Districts discussed local, state and federal permitting including general permits that deal with gravel paths, boat ramps, steps, and bank stabilization.
Conservation District staff also discussed erosion and sediment (E&S) control plans and maintenance dredging. Contractors attending the workshop are added to the Lake Wallenpaupack Contractors List, maintained by Talen Energy, which is often requested by lakefront owners around the lake.
